More Was Left On Sunday

I have to apologize.... it's been so busy around here with schoolwork, Easter, travelling, and some volunteer work I've been helping out with that I haven't managed to blog in a week and a half... but more importantly, I haven't been able to show you the rest of the tags that were left in Confederation Park!  So, let's get right to it!!

Again, this is the same piece... we just wanted two pictures.

And we want to share just one last picture.... this is of one of the benches... one that managed to get four tags attached to it.  Check out how cheerful it is:

And remember... due to the rain, some of the Knitting Kninjas were not able to make it out... there were more tags left later on last weekend!  But if you want to see them... you'll have to check back another time (a classic Knitting Kninja cliffhanger!).

Mission Complete - Guest Post By KnitMama

The Mission - Cheer up the world, one yarn bombing at a time.

The Knitting Kninjas came up with a plan to get the ball rolling on this mission.  We needed to yarn bomb a busy, public location.

Place - Confederation Park, Peterborough, ON (for those of you not local to the area, this park is right across from City Hall)

Date - Friday, April 4th, 2014

Time - 7:00

So.. this task is complete... but have we accomplished our mission?  I would say to complete it, we only needed to physical do the plan.  But to accomplish it, we need to have evidence that our plan did indeed bring cheer to the world.  Let's examine the evidence...

Item #1

The group has formed and it's attracted kids and adults... most of the kids are just learning to knit for the very first time in their life... this is a definite source of cheer for the knitting adults in their life... who doesn't get cheered up while seeing an art they love being passed on to the next generation?

Item #2

Friday night, at the park there were seven children and six adults who gathered to yarn bomb together.  During out time together putting up our tags, much laughter was heard, there was excitement in the air... definitely bringing cheer to that group.

Item #3

Last weekend, leading up to the tag and then quite a bit afterwards, there was much messaging, picture sharing and retelling of the adventure going on.... a fun cheerful break from the regular mundane day to day stuff!

Item #4

Sunday, some more members of our group added to the the group tag in the park, while there, they saw people stopping and admiring the tags and taking pictures.... definite evidence that our work is spreading cheer.

Item #5

While KninjaNeedles8 and I were at the park earlier this week taking pictures of the tags in the sunshine, we got stopped by a passerby asking if we had knit them, I quickly just responded with "'We're just taking pictures" (well., we were... we weren't knitting anything right then!), she replied with how fabulous she thought the tags were and how she'd been by earlier to check them all out.  She sounded very upbeat and cheerful about her experience.

Item #6

You.. right now!  You are here, reading our blog.. in anticipation I'm sure of when we're going to reveal to you what our tags look like!  We have cheered up some of our readers!

With all that evidence, I think we can safely assume that we not only completed our mission, but we also accomplished it!

So... this is the last post before KninjaNeedles8 will reveal to the blog world what all our tags look like.  At last count, I believe we had 22 different tags... so.. be prepared to have a smile brought to your face while you see the wonderful creations that she'll share.

Trying To Not Get Arrested - Guest Post By E.C.K.nista

I was going to bail…’cause I always bail…but I decided to go because this mission was JUST TOO IMPORTANT!  It was raining AGAIN, and our city really needed some cheering up.

So, I parked, looking furtively around, thinking of my husbands parting words “don’t get arrested” and spotted the rest of the gang on the far side at the rendezvous location (if only I could read instructions).

By the time I got there things were starting to look absolutely beautiful.  The dull, wet day became a beautiful rainbow of colour.

I got my piece stitched onto the bench (it is very tough sewing with freezing cold hands and wet wool!), then enjoyed taking pictures and helping where I was needed.

I was thrilled to have gone.

My Very First Tag - Guest Post By Knitting Mermaid

On Friday night we were going to our big tag night in the rain.

Beforehand, I had knit my piece. It was done and ready to go to it's new home.

I was going to put it on the arm of a bench.

It was going to be a nice place for my tag.

I couldn't wait to see it in place.

KnitMama started to seam it first to show me how it was done and then she let me, Knitting Mermaid, have a turn.

And then after I had done almost all of the seam and I was almost at the end, KnitMama took over and finished the job.

Then it was complete.

It was so great see it.

I hope you enjoy it.

I hope the Man In The Tan Coat comes and visits the park and sees how the rainbow comes to life!

The Big Night

It was Friday, it was tagging night.  It was also pouring rain.  All day... the rain had threatened to put off our big tag.

We had been planning this tagging night for more than a month.... there were potentially 23 people hoping to show up and help to tag our chosen location.  What would the rain do to our plans.

For a few days in advance, we'd been watching the weather report... in hopes of the report changing.  To our great dismay, it never did.

At 2:00 on Friday afternoon, it was suppose to be the peak of the rain... and all we could see was some light drizzling.  KnitMama made a decision.  The tag must go on!!!

The Plan:

Meet at 7:00 at Confederation Square Park... break off into smaller groups... tag the park and leave before we were caught.

Sounds easy enough....

What really happened:

We arrived between 6:50 and 6:55 at the park.  Knitting Mermaid, Knitting Wonder Woman, Little Knitter, KnitMama and I all got out of the van and got our stuff ready.

Our huge supplies bag

7:00 arrived and just like clockwork, some cars began to roll up.  Winged Warrior and Knitting BlackOps arrived first... very closely followed by The Detangler.

A much smaller bag belonging to The Detangler

Winged Warrior brought some unexpected news... circumstances had changed for many of the Kninjas... there were sicknesses and fussy babies (and a few who would melt in the rain)... our Kninjas were dropping like flies.

E.C.K.nista arrived shortly after and so did The Purl-ice, Mother Of Purl and TINKerbell.. along with a potential new Kninja who came to observe the antics.

E.C.K.nista takes some pictures while a group of Kninjas works hard behind her

We were now a crew of 13 and we needed to get to work.

Fast and furious we began to seam.

The rain was pouring down.  The weather report had let us down... it was much heavier now than it had been earlier.  But Kninjas must complete a mission once started!

There was an emergency (probably mud related) and KnitMama had to leave her piece

We seamed while wet, we seamed around wet benches,

The Detangler is putting up hers and Knitting Yoshi's piece

we seamed the wet trees, we seamed with wet yarn and we succeeded.

Before we could walk away from our pieces, they were wet.

You can see how wet TINKerbell's label got

We ran into some obstacles despite all our Kninja skills.  We had camera batteries die, we had memory cards fill up,

Camera technology is a must with tags... we need to document our adventures!

we had fingers lose their fine motor skills being exposed to the elements for so long.

Poor Mother Of Purl could barely move her fingers by the end

The biggest obstacle though was Mother Nature.  With all the rain, all day long... Mother Nature had turned the park into mud.  Both Knitting Wonder Woman and I lost a boot in the mud puddle that will eventually be a bed of tulips.  Knitting Wonder Woman also lost her balance in the middle of the mud puddle and her Wonder Woman outfit lost it's red and blue luster and became a bit more brown.

There were numerous opportunities for people to catch us... but no one paid any attention.  We must have had 20 or so people wander past us on the sidewalk or through the park... not one passerby stopped to ask us what we were doing.  We hoped that the Man In The Tan Coat would wander through.... but alas, we did not see him.

But.. we survived.  We were in and out in 30 minutes and decorated the park with 17 pieces of art.  We left with no evidence the Kninjas had been there except for our art.

More pieces have been added since then... will still a few more possible ones to come.

If you are wanting to see our works of art.... for now you'll have to go and check out Confederation Square Park, Peterborough, ON... we're going to leave you hanging for pictures for a little while longer!
